PARRY SOUND-MUSKOKA — A federal election announcement Sunday will officially put Huntsville resident Geordie Sabbagh in the race as a Liberal candidate.

And he won’t waste any time campaigning after Prime Minister Mark Carney chooses either April 28 or May 5 as the federal election day.

Sabbagh will jump in early touring the riding that day, March 23, and will be at the following locations inviting residents to drop by and meet him at:

  • 9:30 to 11 a.m. – Downtown Espresso, Huntsville
  • Noon to 1 p.m. – Trestle, Parry Sound
  • 2 to 4  p.m. – Oliver’s Coffee, Bracebridge
  • 5 to 7 p.m. – Oliver’s Coffee, Gravenhurst

A small business owner, he says he understands firsthand the challenges families and small businesses face here: rising costs, tough financial choices, and a need for a place to call home.

A party release and bio yesterday says he “reboot-strapped” his media business, created jobs and managed multi-million-dollar projects.

A volunteer firefighter in Huntsville, he also sits on a school parent council and supports local arts initiatives including Huntsville’s Got Talent.

“I grew up knowing the value of hard work, family, and community. Leadership starts with understanding, and I’m ready to work to take our community forward and build a country that leads with courage,” he says.

His reason for running?

“My son asked me to run, and when I thought about how much his future will be affected by this election, I stood up and raised my hand. Canada and Parry Sound-Muskoka were built by those who dared to dream, worked hard and stood up for each other. I want my son and all the other young people in my community to have that same chance.

“Now, more than ever, we need leaders who serve with courage, lead with vision and bring people together. I think Mark Carney is the right leader for the job.”
