3 CHARGED AFTER MAN FLEES ‘VILOENT’ ARMED THEFT, CONFINEMENT, ASSAULT IN GRAVENHURST THURSDAY EVENING

GRAVENHURST — Three people from south Muskoka were in bail court yesterday after a “violent” attack early Thursday evening at the south end of Gravenhurst.
Police arrested and charged the trio with multiple “serious” crimes in an incident they described in a release late yesterday afternoon as a “violent.”
They say that on Thursday February 27, at 6:30 p.m., police and Muskoka EMS, responded to a call from a resident on Southwood Road in Gravenhurst after a man showed up at his door asking for help.
He said he’d been at a nearby residence and suffered harm, but was able to flee on foot to find help.
Officers attended and paramedics treated the victim ensuring he was medically well and his needs were met and he was safe, said police Saturday.
After further investigation the Muskoka Crime Unit with the support of the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), the OPP K9 Unit and Bracebridge OPP detachment members, executed a search warrant at the involved address and have taken three people into custody.
As a result, police charged three people.
Ashton Carnegie, 26, of Bracebridge, and Brandon Reed, 33, of Gravenhurst, each face charges of:
- Forcible Confinement CC 279(2)
- Robbery using Firearm CC 344(1)(a)
- Assault with a Weapon CC 267(a)
- Assault CC 266
- Pointing a Firearm CC 87
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm CC 91(1)
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose CC 88
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm CC 95(1)
- Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle CC 334(a)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon CC 91(2)
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order CC 117.01(1)
- Firearm- Use While Committing Offence CC 85(1)(a)
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order CC 733.1(1)
Police have also charged Jody Spears, 52, of Gravenhurst, with:
- Forcible Confinement CC 279(2)
- Robbery using Firearm CC 344(1)(a)
- Assault with a Weapon CC 267(a)
- Assault CC 266
- Pointing a Firearm CC 87
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm CC 91(1)
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose CC 88
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm CC 95(1)
- Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle CC 334(a)
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon CC 91(2)
- Firearm- Use While Committing Offence CC 85(1)(a)
Carnegie, Reed and Spears were held in custody to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on March 1, 2025.
