TOWN CALLS IN HELP TO CLEAR HIGH SNOW BANKS ON NARROW STREETS AFTER LATEST WINTER FALL

GRAVENHURST — A day after a few more centimetres of snow fell, town officials here have declared “a significant weather event” to cope with high snow banks, which threaten traffic safety they say.

The declaration suspends standard timelines to meet winter maintenance objectives.

They cite high snow banks along municipal roads that have narrowed many roads, will take approximately two weeks to clear.

They’ve asked private contractors to assist with removing snow banks who will use snow blowers to widen roads.

Regular winter maintenance operations will continue while snow bank cleanup takes place.

Because roads are narrower than usual in many spots, the town asks motorists and pedestrians to use extra caution when travelling around the community.

And remember that overnight parking is prohibited on municipal roads during the winter as parked vehicles can hinder snow plows.

Vehicles left on roads overnight will be ticketed and towed.

The latest winter fall shows the need for more snow plows.
