THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN “Anonymous” survey comments on election

PARRY SOUND-MUSKOKA — We’re asking: who will you vote for Feb. 27?

And how did you like last night’s provincial election debate — if you watched it.

In south Muskoka they said this morning …

“I’m fed up. Graydon’s a good person and was a good mayor, but it stops there. Green!”

“I can’t imagine anyone voting for Doug Ford if he’s got sympathies for Trump. Surely that’s not the Canadian cultural values we support. It’s like nobody’s home. I’ll vote Green. The Greens did very well in our riding last time. But provincially they don’t have it to compete with Ford? I really don’t know. And the Liberals, they’ve flown in a candidate — and I’m usually a Liberal supporter.”

“I’m voting for clean air. There’s so much pollution. Ford did his usual stuff (last night in second debate) talking about all the money they’re spending. But we’re looking for results. I haven’t had the results, anything. (Ford) does a lot of things behind the scenes, which I don’t think people appreciate. The Greenbelt is a classic example. Ford didn’t give nurses a raise, so they quit and he had to hire agency nurses at twice the cost. That’s not very smart. The other thing is the hospital situation. It’s gonna influence my vote. Graydon Smith was a bit late to help us and we got 46 beds. But in 10 years will they do the job? I doubt it. So Green.”

“I know who I’m voting for, the Greens. They’re the only ones who care about the environment. There are many, many issues to deal with, but if you don’t have an environment, you don’t have anything. We’re gonna be gone.”

“I voted Conservative for years. Traffic is bad, but a tunnel is worse. I voted for Matt last time and will again.”

“I won’t say, but who’s going to stand up to Trump?”

“It’s a stupid time to have a vote. Honestly, I’m for the Greens. I hope they do well.  I just hope that all the traditional Liberal and NDP voters vote Green, because the Greens have the best chance of beating them.”

“I’m going to vote Green, because they were close last time. And I’d like to see a change locally. I don’t know whether Huntsville is getting a better hospital. I’m kind of tired of fighting about it. Let’s just get a shovel in the ground.”

“Anybody but the Conservatives. I don’t like the way they operate. I don’t like what they do. The spa at Ontario Place, the Greenbelt, the Science Centre.“

“I’ve met the candidates and I trust Matt Richter. He works hard and has been applying for this job since 2005. He’s been applying for this job since 2005. I also like the Green Party platform. The other side of it is I am very upset that this election was called. The wasteful spending. The cheques, licence stickers, Greenbelt destruction. A big part of it it’s the taxpayers money. And it seems to me this part about Trump and ‘we need a mandate’ is a ruse. He already had a mandate. Doug Ford is elected to be our premier. Do your job as premier. If you have some spare time, do the other thing.”

“I’m wearing a Green button (and green sweater). Having a winter election is possibly the most cynical thing you can do. It’s unnecessary when nobody is ready for it. This is one of the few places the Greens have a chance. There’s a certain inevitability to it. Also they have an awareness of ecological issues. And hey! Why don’t you choose the finest farmland in the country and build some highways on it. Not houses, highways. I think other voters are more sensitive to the hospitals and schools, He didn’t need a new mandate to tackle Trump. Give me a break Doug.”

“I’m probably going to vote for Doug Ford. My husband wants one of those ‘Canada is Not For Sale Hats.’ I think they’re on sale at Walmart.”

“I’m undecided. I know the incumbent, but I don’t know the others. I truly believe that Doug Ford will win and have majority. As for the health care, my experience is we’ve only had excellent service in long term care. I can honestly say that. We have a family doctor, but when she was in hospital you only see their doctors. You can’t complain. I think the economy is strong and (the premier) has had a lot of experience. But I think Doug Ford has really stood up to the U.S. tariffs. He’s not afraid to lead the way.”

“I haven’t decided, but I agree I think the outcome is going to be Ford. I think here in our area Matt is a good guy, but he’s not going to get in. That’s the problem, you want some representation for your area. That’s why I really don’t think the Greens will win it.”

“Anybody who isn’t Trump.”
