GRAVENHURST — A police cruiser on Hwy. 11 northbound was struck tonight by a transport while investigating a two-vehicle accident.

Officers weren’t injured, however a tow truck driver called to the first reported accident at 7:45 p.m. was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Police say the accidents occurred just north of Kahshe Lake Road North and that the highway is closed for an OPP collision investigation.

They said late tonight that on January 21, officers were dispatched to the original two-vehicle collision near Luigi Road in Gravenhurst.

And that shortly after their arrival and the arrival of a tow truck, a third vehicle became involved when a transport truck struck one of the police vehicles.

The officers were not in the police vehicle at the time and were not injured, however the tow truck operator was transported to hospital with unconfirmed injuries.

The occupants of the vehicles involved in the first collision were not injured.

Highway 11 North was closed in that area for several hours and as there is no reasonably accessible detour for tractor trailers, motorists are asked to avoid the area.

The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided as they become available. Anyone with information is asked to call Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Wednesday, the OPP said they have charged the 32-year-old driver of the transport truck, from Winnipeg, MB, with Careless Driving HTA 130(1) and Fail to Move Over for Emergency Vehicle or Tow Truck HTA 159(3).

Police remain on the scene tonight investigating after one of their vehicles was stuck by a transport while at earlier accident investigation Tuesday night.
