DEATH NOTICE: ‘Shelly’ Brubacher 1940 ~ 2023, educator, family man, world traveller, Gravenhurst curler
BRUBACHER,
Sheldon Timothy
June 2, 1940 ~ October 20, 2023
We are thankful for the life of Sheldon, who passed at Fairvern Nursing Home, in Huntsville, on October 20, 2023, in his 84th year.
Sheldon passed peacefully with his family by his side.
“Shelly” was a loving and devoted husband, stepfather, “Papa,” brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Caring husband of Barb and stepfather of Brian Montross (Jacki). Proud Papa of Matthew, Grace, and Andrew.
Predeceased by stepson Craig Montross (Deb).
Shelly was born in Kitchener and was the youngest of 10 children. His family moved to the St. George area, where they owned Orchard Home Farm. Three generations of Brubachers have carried on the tradition.
Shelly, a graduate of University of Western Ontario, was an educator and vice principal for 34 years with the Brant County Board of Education.
After his marriage, he moved to Simcoe, becoming an attendee of Walsh Baptist Church, where Barb was the organist.
Nine years later, he began his cottage adventures on Muldrew Lake in Gravenhurst as a permanent resident.
He enjoyed boating, puttering around the cottage, constructing decks and riding his Vespa to and from town. He was also a world traveller.
For his first Christmas in Muskoka, Barb gave him a membership to the Gravenhurst Curling Club. This provided an introduction to many new friendships. He was known there for his culinary skills, especially his butter tarts.
Shelly was an avid Maple Leafs and Blue Jays supporter. And he enjoyed his daily swims at the YMCA.
Shelly was a devoted Christian and member of Calvary Baptist Church.
He was a doting husband and a wonderful Papa. He relished spending time at the many activities of his grandkids, whether it was baseball games, dance recitals or school events.
Much appreciation goes out to all the caring staff at Fairvern District Nursing Home in Huntsville.
A memorial service was held at Calvary Church in Gravenhurst on Saturday, October 28. 2023.
