WEATHER WASHES OUT BALA TREK, ELDERBERRIES CONCERTS THIS WEEKEND

MUSKOKA — Two of December’s favourite events are a s-no-w-go Saturday and Sunday.
Flurry forecasts and safety fears prompted both organizers to cancel and possibly postpone.
“Sincere consideration is given to all persons currently dealing with power outages, heavy snow removal and the clearing of roadways. As more snow is forecast for Bala, we feel the safety of our volunteers, actors and visitors is paramount. We don’t want to encourage anyone to be on the roads Saturday night,” the Trek’s organizing committee stated on its Facebook page yesterday.
And as some Elderberries singer live outside of Gravenhurst, director Louise Jardine cited the town’s continuing state of emergency specifically requesting those who live “outside the area not make their way to Gravenhurst. Additional vehicle traffic in the community is a hindrance to cleanup.”
She said in a release today that: “To respect the Town’s wishes, unfortunately we need to cancel our Sunday concert at Trinity United Church.”
In addition, in an email to the Elderberries, other points of consideration were that even if the state of emergency was lifted tomorrow, the town cannot get to the sidewalks or boulevards until next week making parking and walking treacherous.
And, there is another storm heading this way tomorrow with possible 25-50 cm of snow.
“Regretfully, both concerts that were scheduled for this weekend, Saturday at St James and Sunday at Trinity are cancelled.
“Please inform any family and friends that you know were thinking of coming.
“I am hopeful we can come up with an alternative plan to share our beautiful music.”
Perhaps before or during Christmas fans urge.
The Opera House has also cancelled its Travelling Milburys show Saturday night.
Check other venues before attending upcoming shows to make sure they are still on stage as scheduled.
