POLICE LICENCE PLATE READER SPOTS STOLEN VEHICLE, 5 PEOPLE CHARGED INCLUDING WITH B&E TOOLS, HEROIN

PORT CARLING — A stolen vehicle was spotted by police using an automated licence plate detector Monday in Muskoka Lakes Township.

Police arrested them after recovering the stolen vehicle in Port Carling.

They say that on December 9 at 3:45 p.m. an officer was conducting patrols on Muskoka Road 118 just west of Port Carling when he was notified by the Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) in the police cruiser of a possible stolen vehicle.

The vehicle turned in to a service centre and the officer conducted a traffic stop and confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Caledon.

He charged 22-year-old Yogesh Kumar, of North York; 23-year-old Ajpreet Singh, of Caledon; 25-year-old Amritpal Singh, of Caledon; and 23-year-old Sumit Sumit, of Scarborough, each with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime OVER $5,000 CC 355(a) and Possession of Break In Instruments CC 351(1).

Also charged was Anmol  Singh, of Mississauga, with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime OVER $5000 CC 355(a), Possession of Break In Instruments CC 351(1) and Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Heroin CDSA 4(1).

The five accused are to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge January 21, 2025.

Five people face multiple charges including one with possession of heroin. They are to appear in court in Bracebridge in the new year.
