BEARS DON’T WANT TO REMEMBER TODAY’S 7-1 LOSS TO TO MIDLAND FLYERS

BRACEBRIDGE — On the surface the Muskoka Bears aren’t bad every 20 minutes.
At least today.
But on the ice surface this afternoon — where it counts — 2-1, 3-0 and 2-0 periods added up to a 7-1 loss to the Midland Flyers.
Another game not to be remembered or saluted.
A moment of silence before the puck drop in memory of fallen soldiers past and present might well have come to apply to the Jr. C team.
Fifteen games in to a 42-game Provincial Junior Hockey League season and with only two wins — one against these same Flyers — the same mistakes are being repeated offensively and defensively.
The defence fumble frequently trying to break out of their own end and can’t keep pucks trapped in the opposition end.
In their own end this afternoon the Bears let Bennett Mackey split the D for the Flyers’ first goal 5:08 after a Remembrance Day face off.
Midland’s second goal was a point shot Muskoka’s defenders let through that beat Gabriel Donohue’s glove hand.
Jacob Jennings cut the visitors’ lead by half at 18:44 of the first spoiling Jack Pinder’s shut out in stopping 31 of 32 shots.
A shot that met with loud local vocal approval by the majority of the announced 511 in attendance.
The Bears were shut out 3-0 and 2-0 in the second and third periods.
The tale of the tape spells it out clearly.
More than half Midland’s goals were power plays: 4 of 7.
Devin Shoreman had three of them — one in each period. Josh Underwood, Mackenzie Selbie, and Kyler MacNeil rounded out their scoring.
The Bears out shot Midland 32-19. Donohue stopped 12 of 19 shots; Pinder 31 of 32.
Muskoka players were off the ice 30 minutes of the game on 13 penalties, while their opponents sat out 12 minutes on six whistle calls.
Attendance was 511 and time of play was two hours, three minutes.
The Bears travel to Huntsville Friday night with security on the Bears’ minds after some ugly incidents by the hometown fans there.
