HUNTSVILLE — As the OPP’s Special Investigations Unit continues to investigate a multiple family homicide here last Friday a few more details have surfaced.
A report of a shooting on Highview Drive, Oct. 25 before 9 p.m., had police responding to a barricaded person incident.
They said when they arrived three people were dead. But did not identify them or their relationships.
The ornate front door and a large picture window of the family home could be seen riddled with multiple bullet holes.
The SIU says a man called police saying he had harmed two family members inside and that he was in possession of a weapon.
Roads in the surrounding area were closed to ensure public safety.
Once inside, after a remote-controlled camera was used, police found three people dead including the caller.
Three individuals, including the armed individual, were located deceased.
Police were still on the scene Monday at the north end of Huntsville near the intersection of Hwy. 60 West and Main Street near Hortons and Kawartha Dairy.
Highview is a rural stretch of road located between Chaffey Township Road and Fairyview Drive also near the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital.
Neighbours said they thought the gunshot sounds were firecrackers.
The investigation is ongoing by the Muskoka Crime Unit under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch, with assistance from the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Central Region Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
As a result of the officers’ interaction with the barricaded person, the OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
