DO THE MATH: MORE DRIVERS … MORE IMPAIRED DRIVERS (1,500) THIS YEAR IN COTTAGE COUNTRY
ORILLIA — More drivers, more charges.
An increase in residents and visitors this summer enjoying the scenic roads, lakes, and cottage areas has unfortunately led to an increasing number of impaired drivers endangering lives of those on our roads and waterways, say police.
As of Aug. 6 the OPP’s Central Region has laid 1,496 impaired-related charges this year, a number that has been steadily increasing with the nice weather, they say.
Police remain committed to a zero-tolerance policy towards impaired driving, whether it’s alcohol or drug related.
If police determine that you are driving while impaired, drivers face penalties immediately as impaired driving is a crime under the Criminal Code of Canada and the consequences are serious.
