BOATER AMONG FOUR CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OPERATION OVER LONG WEEKEND

MUSKOKA — It may be the summer of Summer McIntosh in Paris.

But in Muskoka it’s the summer of impaired driving charges as police charged four more people over Civic Holiday Long weekend with impaired operation the past five days — including a boater on the Severn River who was to appear in court this morning.

Last Friday, Aug. 2, at 8:50 p.m., police were patrolling the Severn River in Gravenhurst and conducted a vessel stop.

Officers entered into an investigation regarding the presence of alcohol and subsequently arrested and charged 26-year-old Ryan Bayley, of Orillia, with Operation while Impaired- Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Bayley was to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge today, Aug. 27, 2024, to answer to his charge.

Early yesterday morning, Aug. 6, just after 2 a.m., police were conducting a general patrol in Bala near a licensed establishment and became concerned about the driving behaviour of a motorist on Muskoka Road 169.

After stopping the driver the officer charged 19-year-old Emery Farquhar, of Barrie, with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Farquhar is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Sept. 24, 2024, to answer to his charges.

Last night, Aug. 6, at 9:30 p.m., police were patrolling on Muskoka Road in Bracebridge and after observing concerning driving behaviour of another vehicle, conducted a traffic stop on Fraserburg Road near Cedar Lane.

Upon investigation the officer observed the presence of alcohol and subsequently arrested and charged 35-year-old Brock Ferguson, of Muskoka Lakes Township, with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Ferguson is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Sept. 24, 2024 to answer his charges.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, just before midnight, a concerned member of the public called police regarding a vehicle in the ditch on Beaumont Drive near Stephenson Road in Bracebridge.

Police attended and were able to locate the driver, who was uninjured, and have charged 44-year-old Lorraine Howden, of Tiny Township with Operation While Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Howden is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice Sept. 10, to answer her charges.

The penalty in Ontario for impaired driving charges includes an immediate 90-day drivers licence suspension and a minimum seven-day vehicle impoundment. An impaired operation of a vessel will also result in an immediate 90 day driver’s licence suspension.

Furthermore, in the province of Ontario, every driver of a motor vehicle who is under the age of 21 years must have a zero alcohol in their blood.

On the roads, in the water and in the ditch police arrested four people over the long weekend, charging them with impaired driving.
