PAVERS MOVING IN TOMORROW TO LAY BLACK TOP AT FOOT OF BAY STREET — BUT THAT’S NOT THE END OF IT

Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com

GRAVENHURST — Pavers are on standby tonight waiting to hit the road Wednesday morning at the Muskoka Wharf as the first phase of Bay & Beyond inches closer to completion.

However, frustrated drivers detoured east and west on/off James Street will still have months more of wait times on the back street as construction creeps eventually up toward Gravenhurst’s core business area.

Surface work, including replacing storm gutters, drains and news parallel sidewalks, is virtually complete.

But new black top won’t mean it’s full speed up ahead.

North Muldrew Lake Road, in Gravenhurst, was the focus Monday of a lot of the last minute work trying to get it open in the next week.

It’ll be at least into next week before the North Muldrew Lake Road intersection could open and traffic can reach the sports field traffic light and access the Lion’s Pavilion parking lot.

Next up is eastbound to downtown.

That may be another week or so.

Dozens of workers have been busily taking advantage of hot temperatures to finish up.

Truckers have been lined up for weeks taking away one load after bringing another, as graders smooth surfaces, electricians install wiring for lighting and concrete gets poured for white pedestrian walking trails.

All under the guidance of overseeing supervisors.

Everyone in orange vests.

Phase two from Cherokee Lane to Hughson Street between now and November will begin early August.

Traffic on North Muldrew Lake Road and James Street will continue to be backed up for long periods of time this long weekend and till November when the first Bay Street stretch with water, sewer and ground is expected to be complete.
New sidewalks were being prepared for concrete pourers to lay the final layers of white walking trails next to Hwy. 169.
Curbs and gutter works is pretty much complete, here, near the sports field and splash pad.
Electrical work on lighting along Hwy. 169 at the Muskoka Wharf is one of the final pieces of the puzzle.
Supervisors size up the final part of the first phase on the District of Muskoka and Town of Gravenhurst project.
Coon Bros. trucker Lloyd Bisonette waits his turn to pick up a load at the North Muldrew Lake Road intersection.
Trisan trucker Terry Bernier says he’s been asked to work overtime to get the job done.
