GRAVENHURST — You know it’s a great concert when the ticket-taker has to give up his seat.

John Hillier did just that this afternoon while welcoming more than 125 fans and lovers of the popular Elderberries Choir.

The choristers, under the direction of Louise Jardine, wrapped up their ‘Summer Days Summer Nights’ annual two-show weekend series today with another lively performance by the 40 members of celebrating 30 years of showbiz razzmatazz at the much more improved Royal Canadian Legion hall.

The first half, which included Gordon Lightfoot’s “Rainy Days,” hit an out of the park home run with “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

That would be apt title for another summertime: “Take Me Out to an Elderberries Choir.”

It’s better than staying home and watching the Blue Jays even if they did beat the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon.

The ever-evolving choir with a mix of new and old (ed: “aren’t they all”) faces and voices that still have wrinkles and resonance accompanied by Carolyn Grant on electric piano.

Saturday night’s concert, just a little smaller, was equally robust, entertaining and enjoyably received.

Another great concert this afternoon by the Elderberries Choir wrapped up the weekend Summer Nights and Summer Days series at the legion.
An as always appreciative audience applauded every song by the more than 40 members of the popular Gravenhurst-based choral group.
More than 200 fans and lovers of their music filled much more improved well-lite legion hall last night and today.
Heard but seldom seen in the back, no more, are these not so shy basses with much bemused director Louise Jardine.
