PORT CARLING — A third Muskoka water accident this season claimed the life of a Brampton man Saturday night.

Police are investigating the death of the 23-year-old who was operating a Sea-doo on the Indian River just west of Mirror Lake in Muskoka Lakes Township.

Muskoka Lakes Township.

On June 1, at 6 p.m., emergency crews responded to an address on Bailey Street in Port Carling near Hanna Park, the township hall and arena.

Witnesses reported a young man operating a personalized watercraft was ejected into the water while executing a manoeuvre and failed to resurface.

A search commenced immediately and the male was brought to shore, unfortunately life-saving efforts were not successful.

Emergency services remind people enjoying the lakes and rivers in Muskoka and using any type of vessel this summer that life-jackets must be worn in order to be effective. Ensure that you have the necessary safety equipment on board and always share your plan with a person on land so that if you encounter trouble, that information will be available to emergency services.

Saturday’s accident happened just down the street from the Muskoka Lakes Township municipal office near Hanna Park.

Third water incident this year

Last month four people — including two kids 9 and 10 — fell overboard into “frigid” water in Bracebridge after their canoe capsized on the Muskoka River.

On May 10 at 11:20 a.m. responded near Holditch Street.

Fortunately the children were wearing life-jackets in the “frigid water” and all four canoeists made it to shore where they were assessed by Muskoka EMS.

One adult was transported to hospital for further, non-life-threatening, care.

Two weeks before, on April 28, in Gravenhurst 31-year-old Toronto man has drown Sunday in Lake Muskoka just before noon.

Police say the visitor to the area took a kayak out onto Lake Muskoka, near Taylor Island, and encountered difficulties causing him to enter the water.
