MAHC WON’T MEET IN PERSON WITH MDS WEDNESDAY, MOVE FACE-OFF TO ZOOM TO TRY AND SOLVE DIFFERENCES

MUSKOKA — An anticipated face-off between MAHC and south Muskoka MDs Wednesday has been cancelled and instead will be held via zoom.

The third meeting to work out differences between the physicians’ ‘Care Close to Home’ model and Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare’s ‘Made in Muskoka’ health care plan was to be held again at the Utterson Community Hall May 8.

But according to Save South Muskoka Hospital officials tonight that won’t happen at the last minute.

Doctors have been told this is their last attempt at convincing MAHC’s board of directors to equalize the playing field between South Muskoka Memorial Hospital and Huntsville District Memorial Hospital.

This follows a public rally Saturday they say drew more than 300 supporters to Memorial Park in Bracebridge in support of the medical doctors and their alternate plan.

They had also planned to rally supporters in Utterson ahead of the meeting to show more support.

But now that won’t be possible.

Save South Muskoka Hospital members are skeptical of a change to Wednesday’s in-person meeting and suspect MAHC doesn’t want to face another rally in Utterson like the one Saturday in Bracebridge that drew more then 300 supporters for the doctors’ ‘Care Close to Home’ model.

Dan and Cindy Waters said in a release Monday night:

“WOW! What a beautiful Saturday you made happen.  Thank you everyone for you support whether you were able to get there or not.  There were about 300 people at Memorial Park on Saturday and the only thing that shone brighter than the sun was the spirit of the people there.”

They say  MAHC had people and there were also town had some councillors.

“And of course there were doctors, nurses, physio therapists, occupational therapists, environmental staff, maintenance staff and just plain folk. It was great and we thank you so much.

“Wednesday was going to be another day to pay tribute to our doctors, before they attend their meeting with MAHC.  We wanted to let them know that we are with them.

“But in true ‘transparent style,’ MAHC won’t be using the Utterson Hall for their meeting with the doctors.  They don’t want any public around so they are having a zoom meeting instead.

“I’m so sad to say that we have absolutely no trust for Cheryl Harrison and those around her.”

The Waters say SSMH members will still go to Utterson in case people arrive expecting to offer support and find no evidence of a meeting.

“Stay tuned for more action.  We’re building our teams and our resources,” they say.
