THIEVES UP TO NO GOOD — STEAL COPPER WIRE FROM COMMUNICATIONS LINE IN HUNTSVILLE
HUNTSVILLE — A high-wire criminal investigation is underway after thieves severed and removed a communication line on a utility pole.
The theft of the copper wire occurred near Greer Road last Thursday, April 4, between 7 and 8 p.m. when the wires were actually cut.
OPP Const. Dana Morris says “there was a service interruption when the wires were cut and that is how the time frame was narrowed to one hour.”
She said police aren’t sure how long it took the thieves to remove the wires.
The suspects were driving a pickup truck that would have been heavily loaded with approximately 1,000 pounds of wire.
And there may have been drivers in the area who may have seen the pickup.
Damage has been estimated to be more than $10,000.
The investigation is continuing, and the OPP at Huntsville are asking the public’s assistance in identifying the person(s) responsible.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit information online at www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
