HUNTSVILLE SHOPLIFTING REPORTS LEAD TO 2 ARRESTS IN YORK REGION AUTO THEFT

HUNTSVILLE A pair of shoplifting complaints here have led to an additional charge of auto theft in York Region.

Police say they arrested and charged two men after a report of a shoplifter February 6 at 9:20 a.m.

Responding officers found the suspect at another local business where he was also suspected of shoplifting.

Roland Carriere, 45, was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5000 – shoplifting – 2 counts
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime under $5000
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime over $5000

He has no fixed address, but was last address was in Georgina, York Region.

During an investigation, police identified another person in relation to another crime. This individual and the accused were connected to a stolen vehicle from York Region found in Huntsville, along with a stolen wallet and merchandise belonging to Huntsville businesses.

As a result, Michael Coconis, 38, of Muskoka Lakes Township, was charged with: Possession Property Obtained by Crime under $5000.

Carriere and Coconis are to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on a future date.

On Tuesday police responded to two shoplifting reports that led to a stolen auto from York Region.
