MCB’S ‘WE REMEMBER’ CONCERT NOV. 4 HONOURS MILITARY FROM ALL WARS PAST, PRESENT

GRAVENHURST — War never ends.
The people fighting them do.
Each year the Muskoka Concert Band honours them with a “We Remember” concert.
This year it’s Saturday, Nov. 4, 2 p.m. at Trinity United Church in Gravenhurst on Muskoka Road North.
Admission is by free-will offering.
It recognizes the men and women past — and present — who’ve served in the military to help protect the freedom of all Canadians along with those on front lines around the world.
In doing so the concert also recognizes the civilian lives caught up in global conflicts.
This year’s six musical pieces — performed by more than 20 brass and woodwind players; under the direction of conductor Fran Harvey — have an international flavour.
They range from British composer Kenneth Alford’s well-known nautical march “On the Quarterdeck,” to Sammy Nestico’s lush arrangement of “Loch Lomond,” and the hauntingly beautiful “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss,” which is based on the hymn “It is Well With My Soul.”
The program round out with “American Salute,” a theme and variation on “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” John Williams’ unforgettable “Hymn to the Fallen” from the movie “Saving Private Ryan.”
As well as some of the popular music of the Second World War in “Duke Ellington in Concert.”
Help the MCB recognize the many members of Muskoka who have fought for freedom, with music that reflects the men and women of the services.
