LOCAL MAN CHARGED WITH 99 INCIDENTS OF THEFT AND SHOPLIFTING  IN GRAVENHURST BETWEEN JUNE TO NOVEMBER

GRAVENHURST — “Frustrated” shop owners are happy to see a suspect charged with multiple thefts here appeared in court this morning.

Police say they charged a Gravenhurst man accused of multiple thefts at local stores.

They say that between June 2023 and November officers responded to 99 separate incidents of theft and shoplifting from the Gravenhurst area.

The OPP say that many of those victims were “frustrated store and business owners who face increasing vulnerability in these situations.”

Yesterday, November 7, after their investigation into several of the incidents, OPP officers located and arrested 44-year-old Raymond Shaw.

He is charged with the following:

  • Theft Under $5000 CC 334(b) X 9
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime CC 354(1)(a)
  • Fail to Comply with Probation CC 733.1(1) X 5
  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking CC 145(4)(a)

Shaw appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge for a bail hearing on November 8, 2023 to answer to his charges.

Raymond Shaw, 44, of Gravenhurst, was charged yesterday after “frustrated shop and business owners” complained to police about the rash of crimes between June and November.
