MUSKOKA — If anyone needed a reminder that COVID isn’t “over,” “done with,” and “gone” Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare reports at “facility-wide COVID-19 outbreak” at their south Muskoka hospital site.

They say in a release late Tuesday afternoon that: “In collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, a facility-wide COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) Site.”

The outbreak currently includes eight patients and six staff across four inpatient units. MAHC SAYS testing of patients and staff continues to occur as part of outbreak management protocols and enhanced cleaning practices are underway to limit spread. Additional masking and other personal protective equipment requirements are also in place.

Throughout the hospital, including the emergency department, no visitors are allowed for inpatient and outpatients during the outbreak period except for essential caregivers and other special circumstances.

They note that scheduled outpatient exams and surgical procedures at SMMH continue as scheduled unless patients are directly advised otherwise.

It’s another reminder that those with cold or flu-like symptoms may face more serious health challenges, which require more immediate care as well as the latest COVID injection. Check with your doctor or pharmacist and take precautions around others and especially in public.

South Muskoka Memorial Hospital is under a facility-wide COVID outbreak as of Tuesday, Nov. 14, with eight patients and six staff affected across four hospital units.
