MAN BADLY BURNED AFTER GARAGE FIRE IN LAKE OF BAYS MONDAY AFTERNOON

LAKE OF BAYS A man who was helped by firefighters from a burning garage yesterday afternoon and was airlifted to hospital in Toronto is in stable condition.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department says that just after 3:08 p.m. on October 23 they responded to the fire on Point Ideal Road in Lake of Bays.

Station 2 Port Cunnington was first on scene to a 30- by 60-foot detached outbuilding with heavy fire and smoke visible.

Firefighters assisted the man from the building and began battling the blaze.

The occupant received burns to a large portion of his upper body and was immediately transported to Huntsville District Memorial Hospital by paramedics.

He was later airlifted to Toronto and is in stable condition, says the HLBFD release this afternoon.

Additional crews from Station 3 Hillside, Station 1 Huntsville, and Station 4 Baysville were called in to assist in containing the fire, which was brought under control two hours later.

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department would like to remind residents to have safety measures in place when working with combustible liquids. Work in a well-ventilated area with a proper means of egress and have a Class B fire extinguisher on hand.

In the event of a fire, immediately exit the building and call 911 for assistance.
