LIGHTFOOT TRIBUTE RAISES $10,000 FOR ROTARY’S ROCK THE BARGE PROJECT & NEW RAFFLE OFFERS 2 E-BIKES

GRAVENHURST — The legend lives on and Rotary Rocks the Barge is $10,000 more to the good.

The Opera House was a hot house last night as Steve Rae and the Pony Man band paid tribute to Gordon Lightfoot in a benefit for the Gravenhurst Rotary Club’s 85th anniversary project.

More than 300 Lightfoot fans enjoyed the two-hour and 40 minute performance by the Guelph Rotarian Rae and his band who donated all the proceeds to the local service club’s amphitheatre seating plan at Gull Lake Rotary Park — scheduled to be built this fall.

Committee members were also on hand selling tickets on a new fundraising raffle, to be drawn next month, to help get them over the top for their goal of more than $400,000.

His and hers e-bikes, valued at $2,000 each, have been donated, along with a copper pole-mount bird feeder valued at $600

The 2,000 tickets are priced at $5 each — or 5 for $20 — and the winners will be announced during the Sunday Aug. 13 Music on the Barge concert.

Steve Rae, centre, and his Pony Man bandmates donated the proceeds of last night’s Gordon Lightfoot tribute concert to the Gravenhurst Rotary Club.

The Raleigh Dobson E-bikes — donated by Paul Pollock owner of a Canadian Tire store in Barrie — are an easy-cruising comfort bike that features a pedal-assist 250-watt, 36 volt hub-drive motor that only kicks in when you’re pedalling the bike.  The motor utilizes a simple cadence sensor that detects when the pedals are moving.  With the battery and controller fully integrated into the frame, this bike feels, rides and looks like a standard bicycle with all the added benefits of a pedal-assist E-bike.  They are made with an aluminum frame and have single speed drive train, alloy disc brakes, swept-back handlebars and a comfortable seat.

Take ride on these e-bikes and help Rotary Rock the Barge.
