ROTARIANS HAND OUT $2,000 IN GIFT CARDS TODAY IN ‘RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS’

GRAVENHURST — If you saw a few more smiles today it wasn’t just because of the return of the sun.

Gravenhurst Rotarians spread out across town in “acts of random kindness” handing out $2,000 worth of gift cards.

“It’s part of the club’s community service initiative,” said avenue chair Pam McDivitt, adding “people were so surprised” to be suddenly gifted out of the blue.

“It brought a lot of smiles and wa a lot of fun.”

She said it was just a chance to offer “someone, anyone” a little cheer on their day and to maybe help others along the way.

They bought the $10 and $20 gift cards from Dollarama, Sobeys, YIG and Canadian Tire, along with others from Oliver’s Coffee and some $10 “Gravenhurst Dollars” vouchers to use at local stores.

All in all a nice way to give back to a citizens who support Rotary’s many community efforts through Rotary Bingo, the club’s TV/Internet Auction, said McDivitt, so the club can sponsor its mental health, world service donations and local education bursary.

Rotary community services chair Pam McDivitt loads Rotarians up with $2,000 worth of gift cards, at their weekly meeting Thursday, to hand out this afternoon in surprise “random acts of kindness” to the community.
