‘SHIVVER ME TIMBERS,’ SALTY DOGS, IT’S THE LAST ‘PIRATE CRUISE’ OF THE SEASON SUNDAY ABOARD WENONAH II

GRAVENHURST — It’s clear sailing tomorrow. A great day for a booming ‘Pirate Cruise.’ The last sea battle of the season aboard the Wenonah II.

And what another epic dogfight it promises to be.

Canons are locked and loaded with water and smoke for the Sunday morning clash.

And — “Shivver me timbers” — pirates young and old will be practising their “Aaarrgghh mateys!”

The salty dogs are ready to don eye patches and triangular hats for a day on Muskoka Lake engaging dozens of water shooting boaters and cannon firing cottagers who will be engaging in the their weekly war at sea.

It’s a role play with a treasure map that’s grown in popularity for 18 years and is one of the most anticipated engagements of the summer for cast and crew, says Muskoka Steamships president John Miller.

The Crawford family, who deck their dock with multiple pirate flags and are fodder for one of Miller’s first booming canon outbursts, have been defending their cottage from Day 1.

There’s even a pirate ship boarding and defence of the Wenonah with a surprise ending.

But it’s “Captain Corbin” who is the real star of the show.

The comedian and magician (a.k.a. Mike Fisher) is as engaging, entertaining and endearing as a peg-legged sea dog could ever hope to be. His running, interactive patter is alone worth the price of the two-hour cruise out in to the big lake ($52 for adults, $30 for kids and $10 for babes under 2).

Lucky for the kids at the end they get a piece of that treasure gold for their efforts.

So all aboard the Wenonah II tomorrow for high seas adventures.

Time to hoist the pirate’s flag to show your ships colours at sea to marauding passing boats.
The cruise is a popular chance for boaters to come alongside and fire their water cannons. Some weeks as many as three dozen attack the ship.

Whether it’s starboard or port side the fun is all around the ship at sea.
It’s all-out fun for the boaters and their full crews who follow the Wenonah II on its treasure hunt.
Beware pirates coming alongside ready to board your ship in mock attack.
Among the surprises is a chance to see mermaids basking on a tiny island.
There’s always time for a little magic trick by Captain Corbin.
