OPP FINALLY CRACKING DOWN ON LOUD CAR, TRUCK, MOTORCYCLE MUFFLERS — IN ORILLIA
ORILLIA — About time!
That’s the opinion of most residents and motorist here fed up with the roaring sound of pickup trucks, cars that sound like Indy racers and motorcyclists the needlessly flex their mufflers because they think they can and that no one cares.
Not any more — not at least this month in Orillia.
After years of complaints, the Orillia detachment of the OPP is finally cracking down by conducting patrols for noisy vehicles due to ongoing complaints from residents to both police and the City of Orillia.
Could it be coming to your community next month? Call your police or council for similar enforcement.
The initiative will target vehicles who have excessively loud mufflers and exhaust systems, including aftermarket exhausts and vehicles that cause unreasonable amounts of smoke.
It will aim to educate drivers and enforce the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and runs from Sept. 1 to Sept. 30.
Police say drivers are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure their exhaust system meets the requirements of Provincial Laws including the HTA. This includes the exhaust being in good working order, with no excessive noise, or unreasonable amount of smoke. Furthermore, the driver shall not at any time cause the motor vehicle to make any unnecessary noise, nor permit any unreasonable amount of smoke to escape from the motor vehicle.
All motor vehicles and motor assisted bicycles are required to have a proper muffler in good working order and shall not use a muffler cut-out, straight exhaust, gutted muffler, Hollywood muffler, by-pass or similar device in accordance with the HTA s. 75.
The Orillia OPP is committed to serving our province, including the Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara and Severn and the City of Orillia. About time. Seems to have been zero enforcement
regarding muffler noise in the last decade.
What about those idiots who have mufflers that make
gunshot noises? Seriously, what is wrong with you
people?

Bracebridge has the same problem throughout the whole town especially on the roads skirting the falls. Ecclestone and Dill/Wharf roads seem to attract showoff vehicles of all types…but especially pickup trucks and Harleys it seems. We are not impressed especially with the inaction of the OPP to enforce noise infractions.
