ERRATIC DRIVING COMPLAINTS LEAD TO DANGEROUS OPERATION, DRUG CHARGES FOR 2 MUSKOKA MEN

GRAVENHURST — Complaints yesterday of an erratic driver have led to several charges against two Muskoka men.

OPP received several traffic complaints about the unsafe driving of a pickup truck on First Street and Bethune Drive in Gravenhurst Wednesday Aug. 31 in the late afternoon.

Officers were updated that the vehicle had pulled into a plaza in Gravenhurst and a traffic stop was initiated.

Police arrested and charged 36-year-old Matthew Lawrence, of Dwight, with the following:

  • Dangerous Operation CC 320.13(1)
  • Resist Peace Officer CC 129(a)
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose CC 88
  • Possession of Over 30g of Dried Cannabis CA 8(1)(a)

Also charged was 35-year-old Brian Shanks, of Gravenhurst, with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of a Schedule III Substance CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime CC 354(1)(a)

Lawrence and Shanks are to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Oct. 11, 2022.

Police tracked down a pickup truck, which was the subject of multiple traffic complaints from the public in Gravenhurst late yesterday afternoon.
