THEY DIDN’T LOCK IT … SO THEY LOST IT 6 TIMES IN GRAVENHURST, SAY POLICE

GRAVENHURST — Multiple thefts here from vehicles have led to a charge Saturday involving one of them.

Police continue to investigate several reported items stolen from unlocked cars and trucks in Gravenhurst that continue to occurring in the early morning hours the past two weeks. Most incidents were in the town core between Muskoka Beach Road, Muskoka Road North, Winewood Avenue, Fraser Street, Louise Street and surrounding areas.

On Aug. 13 the OPP arrested and charged Randy Shanks, 32, of Gravenhurst, with Theft Under $5000 CC 334(b) in relation to one theft Aug. 2.

OPP Const. Sam Bigley says at least six thefts have been reported, but she says, “there are many people who I’m sure haven’t called to report.”

Thieves are taking money and small valuables, but are generally not breaking things, so people don’t realize the importance of calling it in.

Police are asking that homeowners check their home surveillance cameras for possible evidence of people checking vehicle doors. Even if your vehicle was locked and therefore not entered, it is a valuable piece of information for the police to have and may lead to identifying the person(s) responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bracebridge OPP at 1-888-310-1122. You may also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or you can submit your information online at www.crimestopperssdm.com. Police remind drivers to lock their vehicles when exiting them in their driveway or even when leaving them for any short period of time.
