DOG PERISHES IN DWIGHT MONDAY AFTERNOON DURING $400,000 BLAZE
DWIGHT — Two dogs were rescued today, but a third one died in a fire here this afternoon.
Huntsville/Lake of Bays firefighters responded to a structure fire shortly before 1 p.m. on Highway 35 in Dwight Monday, June 27.
They say that when crews from stations 2 and 3 arrived they encountered thick smoke inside the two-storey home.
They were able to quickly locate the blaze and extinguish it.
Mike Vadlja, fire prevention officer, said there were no occupants in the home at the time and employees from adjacent businesses who witnessed the smoke called 911.
One employee entered the structure and removed two dogs. Unfortunately a third dog had perished in the fire.
Vadlja said damage was limited to the room of origin and the rest of the home suffered smoke and heat damage.
Although the area of origin has been determined, he said the investigation into the cause and circumstances are still under investigation.
Damage is estimated at $400,000.
