DRIVER TAKES OUT 2 GUARD RAILS, CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED BY DRUGS YESTERDAY
GRAVENHURST — A late afternoon accident yesterday has led to an impaired driving by drug charge against a Gravenhurst man after fellow drivers stopped to assist.
Police say that on Tuesday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on the Gravenhurst Parkway south near Reay Road.
They say a vehicle crashed into a guard rail, taking out two posts before coming to a stop.
Members of the public stopped to help the driver and ensure his safety until officers arrived.
After an investigation police arrested and charged 46-year-old Charles Johnston with Operation While Impaired by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a), and Refusal to Comply with Demand CC 320.15(1).
Johnston is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, June 14, 2022.
Police say OPP officers have the skills and technology to investigate not only impaired driving incidents involving alcohol, but drug impairment as well with the use of drug recognition experts.
