ATV RIDER, 72, DEAD AFTER GOING THROUGH ICE ON LAKE VERNON, WEST OF HUNTSVILLE
HUNTSVILLE — An ATV rider missing since Friday was recovered from Lake Vernon yesterday.
Police say they were called just after 6 p.m., March 18, to a home on Brennan Circle in Huntsville.
Karel van Denheuvel hadn’t returned home after going out onto Lake Vernon on his all-terrain vehicle earlier in the day.
Huntsville OPP officers initiated the search and were joined by central region OPP’s emergency response team, OPP aviation services and the OPP underwater search and recovery unit to assist in the search of the lake at the west end of the lake, west of downtown Huntsville.
On March 20 van Denheuvel’s body was located and recovered from Lake Vernon in the area of Rock Island.
