MUSKOKA — While Bracebridge is shedding light at the Bracebridge Falls on the plight of Ukrainians, Huntsville’s town council is expected to vote today to lower the Russian flag at its G8 Park — for a second time.

Huntsville says: “In response to the country of Russia’s invasion of the country of Ukraine, a resolution to remove the Russian flag at the G8 Flag Park is on the council agenda Monday Feb. 28.

“As part of corporate policy, the flag can only be removed by way of council resolution and reinstated when the motion has been rescinded.

Mayor Karin Terziano said Friday “I am confident that council will remove this flag by resolution on Monday.”

Here release added: “Huntsville council shares in Prime Minister Trudeau and Premier Ford’s comments and admonishes this unprovoked aggression on Ukraine. The Town of Huntsville stands with the residents of the Ukraine.”

In February Huntsville took down the same flag after Russia invaded Crimea.

They returned it a year later in March 2015.

This past weekend, Bracebridge lit up the downtown falls with blue and yellow lights to show solidarity with the Ukrainian country under siege by Russia and its President Vladimir Putin.

Huntsville will remove it’s G8 Russian flag, second left, a second time to oppose the invasion of Ukraine.
