TWO-HOUR BOOSTER SHOT LINE-UP TODAY AS HUNDREDS SCRAMBLE FOR THIRD VACCINE ALL DAY

GRAVENHURST — Hundreds lined up here this morning for walk-in booster shots.

No going online to book an appointment.

But the wait was at least two hours after the Shoppers Drug Mart opened at 8 a.m.

The line-up circled the store, down Muskoka Road, around and down on to James Street to the northwest driveway entrance.

Shoppers pharmacist/owner Simon Lee said he’s been offering the same third-shot service Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays for weeks.

Anxious for their third shot, the adult crowd shuffled along slowly, quietly and peacefully.

A sunny day kept them in a good mood.

Bryan and Susan Graham came into town from Kahshe Lake, Linda and David Papple crossed over from Pineridge.

And — so Canadian — they were polite and content enough to wait their turn.

They’d been in line since 8:30 a.m. when they arrived at the jam-packed parking lot and got in line at the back drive.

At 10 a.m. they were just rounding the main street in front of the drug store and said they still had at least a half hour’s wait to get inside.

Shoppers staff kept a separate line for the large crowd, while letting in other customers.

Every 10-15 minutes they’d come outside to speed things along by handing out clipboards to the first half dozen people in line so they could fill out information sheets before getting their third shot.

The line-up lasted in to the afternoon and people were still outside at the corner of the building at 4 p.m.

Phones at the store were busy late in to the afternoon as people called to ask about the booster shot.

The health unit said as of today they are among 93,000 Simcoe-Muskoka residents have had their third shot.
