POLICE SHOOT, KILL ONE DOG AND TASER ANOTHER DUE TO CONCERNS FOR ‘OFFICER SAFETY’
BRACEBRIDGE — A disturbance call last night at a north end main street motel led a police to shoot and kill one dog and taser another “due to concerns for officer safety.”
The OPP say that at 9 p.m., Dec. 28, officers responded to reports of a disturbance and mischief at the motel at the north end of Manitoba Street.
They say when they arrived officers attempted to arrest the accused who they say resisted.
During the altercation, police say “two large dogs attacked the officers.”
Police say they were the bullmastiff type.
One was stopped, they said, after an officer used a conducted energy weapon (CEW).
Police say the second dog did not respond to multiple CEW attempts and was subsequently “dispatched” due to concerns for officer safety.
As a result, Ryan Girodat, 40, of Brockton, was charged under the Criminal Code with causing a disturbance and mischief.
Girodat is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, on March 8, 2022.
A call to the Knights Inn, at 400 Manitoba St., confirmed the incident, but the person who answered said they weren’t at the motel and couldn’t provide any more details other than what the police reported in a release just before noon Wednesday.
