3 MUSKOKA COVID CASES MONDAY, AS ALMOST TWICE AS MANY PEOPLE TESTED POSITIVE LAST WEEK

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Seventy of the 103 COVID local cases this weekend were unvaccinated.

Two dozen were fully vaccinated and 8 partially vaccinated.

And of the more than 100 cases in Simcoe-Muskoka since Friday, 3 of them were Muskokans:

  • Huntsville boy, under 18, is under investigation after reporting Saturday, with a first episode Friday
  • Huntsville woman, 35-44, under investigation after reporting Saturday, with a first episode the same day
  • Bracebridge man, 45-64, had close contact after reporting Friday, with a first episode Wednesday

They bring to 247 the number of cases last week, which is nearly double that of the week before when there were 127.

The health unit reports 17 cases alone Sunday.

They add there are 320 active cases and 20 people in hospital, none new this weekend.

HEALTH UNIT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 14,305 cases to date
  • 17 cases so far this week
  • 247 last week, which is nearly double the 127 cases last week
  • From Dec. 22 there have been 491 confirmed COVID-19 cases among vaccinated individuals
  • 2 deaths in November and 5 each in October and September
  • From Sept. 12 to Nov. 6 the rate of COVID-19 infection among the unvaccinated vaccine-eligible Simcoe Muskoka population is 8 times higher than it is for fully vaccinated population and the rate of COVID-19 hospitalizations is 9 times higher
  • 4,008 Alpha variants of concern, 169 Gamma, 34 Beta, 1,712 Delta
  • 663 cases await confirmation of VOC
  • 913,966 vaccines have been administered
  • 462,772 residents have received at least one vaccine, which represents 77% of the total population
  • 87% of the population 12+ have had at least one vaccine
  • 87% of youth 12 to 17 have also received at least one vaccine

There are 328 active COVID cases as of Monday in Simcoe-Muskoka.
