20TH IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGE LAID PAST SIX WEEKS IN SOUTH MUSKOKA

BRACEBRIDGE — Summer’s been a busy time for local police who have charged 20 people with impaired driving since mid-July.

Provincial police say they are “disappointed” at the unusual number of drivers charged during the past six weeks.

Thursday morning was their latest arrest.

They say that on Aug. 26, just before 8 a.m., a member of the public reported seeing a car parked on the shoulder of Hwy. 11 SB just south of Gravenhurst.

They said and the driver’s behaviour seemed concerning.

Officers found the vehicle and after their investigation charged 37-year-old David Cheesequay, of Barrie, with the following:

  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance – Cocaine CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance – Crack Cocaine CDSA 4(1)
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 CC 354(1)(a) X 2

He also faced several Highway Traffic Act and Liquor License Act offences

Cheesequay is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Oct. 12, 2021.

As well, Cheesequay’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded.

A Barrie driver faces impaired by drug charges and other Highway Traffic Act charges after being found stopped on Hwy. 11 SB south of Gravenhurst on Thursday.
