UPDATE: CALEDON MAN, 61, DROWNS WEST OF MACTIER FRIDAY AFTERNOON
GEORGIAN BAY — A search for a swimmer who went missing early this afternoon has ended tragically with his death.
Police from Bracebridge were dispatched at 1:10 p.m. Friday July 2 after a call about a possible drowning in Arnolds Bay near Moon Basin Marina.
They say members of the public saw a man having difficulty near a dock and saw him slip under water.
Efforts by the public were made to locate him while awaiting for emergency services.
Police along with Muskoka EMS, Moose Deer Point Fire Department, the OPP Marine Unit and their Underwater Search and Recovery Unit arrived and began a search of the water.
At 4:25 p.m. police divers recovered 61-year-old Errol Knight of Caledon, they say in release this evening.
However, unfortunately life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.
This is the second drowning incident in Muskoka this week.
Sunday afternoon two young men, 20 and 23, died when they got caught in a whirlpool at the rapids swimming hole in Port Sydney.
