LOCAL MAN CHARGED TWICE SAME DAY WITH UTTERING DEATH THREATS

HUNTSVILLEA local man released by police Tuesday afternoon for uttering death threats was re-arrested just over two hours later and faces more similar charges after a second incident.

Police who aren’t releasing more details of the incidents — “to protect the victim’s safety” — say Scott Mitchell, 47, of Huntsville, was arrested and charged twice on June 29 before being held overnight in police custody for a bail hearing Wednesday morning.

The OPP say that at 3:35 p.m. officers began their first investigation involving threats.

Mitchell was initially charged with:

  • Two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Officers released him from custody by way of an undertaking to appear Aug. 18, 2021, in Ontario Court of Justice in Huntsville.

Just over two hours later — at 5:55 p.m. — officers responded to another threatening complaint involving Mitchell.

After that investigation Mitchell was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Criminal harassment contrary to section 246(2)(d) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Failure to comply with an undertaking contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Mischief under $5,000 contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

He was held for a bail hearing scheduled for June 30, 2021.
