BODY OF DROWNING VICTIM FOUND IN BRACEBRIDGE SUNDAY MORNING

BRACEBRIDGE — The body of a swimmer who drowned last night was found this morning in the Muskoka River.

He is the fourth drowning victim this week in Muskoka waters.

Provincial police divers recovered the 18-year-old man who went into the water shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday night and didn’t surface,

The OPP say in an updated report — just after 11 a.m. today — that on July 3 police and Bracebridge Fire responded to a swimmer in distress on the south branch of the Muskoka River off Golden Beach Road near Santa’s Village.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) was called in to assist in the search after others present began combing the water when he failed to surface.

The search was suspended last night due to visibility and safety concerns and resumed early this morning, Sunday, July 4.

Police say shortly before 9 a.m., the body of the missing swimmer was recovered.

They say the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Last Sunday two men aged 20 and 23 died at the Port Sydney rapids.

Friday a Caledon man, 61, drown on Arnolds Bay, west of MacTier.

Police remind residents and visitors to be cautious whenever entering a body of water. They say know your limits, wear appropriate safety equipment and please stay safe.
