SWIMMERS 20 AND 23 DROWN AT PORT SYDNEY RAPIDS THIS AFTERNOON
HUNTSVILLE — Two young men swimming at the popular Port Sydney rapids drown this afternoon and a third male is in hospital.
Provincial police say tonight that at 2 p.m. 911 calls came in for all emergency services after the three swimmers 20, 23 and 25 years old were last seen in the water and had not surfaced after going down the rapids.
Police with the help of the OPP Aviation Services, their Underwater Search & Recovery Unit, firefighters and Muskoka EMS responded.
And a joint search and rescue was undertaken.
An hour later two men were located and taken to hospital.
A 22-year-old male is recovering in hospital and a 23-year-old male was flown to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
A 20-year-old male was later found dead by police divers.
The names of the deceased will be withheld pending next of kin notification.
OPP at Huntsville would like to thank the public for their assistance in the search.
