SWIM ADVISORY AT WEST GRAVENHURST’S MUSKOKA BAY PARK BEACH

GRAVENHURST — The season’s first swim advisory here comes on the first weekend of summer and on a rainy day.

The Town of Gavenhurst says this afternoon that based on beach water samples collected by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) yesterday, June 24, they recommend Muskoka Bay Park Beach, in West Gravenhurst, be posted with swim advisory signs.

The beach itself will remain open to the public.

During a swim advisory, the beach is posted with warning signs that the most recent water samples showed bacteria in numbers that may increase your risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections, or stomach illness.

Health officials say if you choose to swim during a swim advisory, avoid submerging your head or swallowing the water.

For more on Gravenhurst swim sites visit the Town’s website for beach COVID-19 safety protocols and additional swimming options in Gravenhurst.

Beaches and parks are actively being monitored by town byaw.

As a reminder, they warn misuse or non-compliance of beach protocols and town bylaws may lead to the closing of beaches, parks and public spaces in an effort to protect the community.

For additional information on beach water testing, please visit the SMDHU website at www.simcoemuskokahealth.org/Topics/SafeWater/BeachWater/BeachPostings. The Town will continue to communicate updates as they become available.
