WILDFIRE BETWEEN NORTH MULDREW LAKE AND JEVINS LAKE

MUSKOKA — A large wildfire two kilometres east of North Muldrew Lake, in Gravenhurst, Saturday had Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (OMNRF) water bombers tackling the 3.8 hectare blaze.
At the same time Gravenhurst firefighters putting out a smaller grass fire near Carrick Trail at the Muskoka Bay Resort.
Gravenhurst and Bracebridge are showing extreme wildfire hazards this weekend, according to the OMNRF.
That includes the surrounding areas of Bruce Mines, Thessalon, St. Joseph Island, Cockburn Island, Massey, Burwash, and Bancroft.
The are all part of the ministry’s Northeast reporting region — where the fire hazard is mostly high — and as of Saturday night had reported these four new confirmed fires:
- Parry Sound 3 is located approximately 2 kilometres east of North Muldrew Lake. A belly tanking helicopter assisted with suppression efforts early this afternoon, on the site of this 3.8 hectare fire.
- Algonquin Park 1 was located in the southwest corner of Algonquin Provincial Park, just south of highway 60. It has already been declared out at 0.1 of a hectare.
- Bancroft 7 is 2.5 hectares and was confirmed late this afternoon northeast of Bon Echo Provincial Park. A CL-415 assisted with fire suppression efforts.
- Kemptville 1 is located south of White Lake. It was confirmed late Saturday afternoon and is not yet under control at the time of this update.
The ministry report said there are two other active fires in the region, they both under control.
