GRAVENHURST — Family and friends of Justin Evans are reporting that the body of the young man — who has been missing since Dec. 12 — was found by a hiker yesterday near his home in Kilworthy.

His reported cousin, Marj Giordanella shared this “latest family update” post on Facebook:

“On behalf of the family, I would like to update everyone before the rumour mill does.

“There has been a body found close to the trailer park Justin lived in. The detectives have been to Jaime’s house to speak with her and let her know that it is believed to be Justin.

“They will of course be confirming with DNA and can’t say 100% that it is Justin without that, but they can say it is believed to be Justin.

“We knew this day would come but it certainly doesn’t make it any easier. To say we are heartbroken would be a complete understatement.

“We love you Justin and we will be forever missing you. ”

Police issued a news release last night saying human remains were found yesterday, May 19.

They said that on Wednesday, May 19, shortly before 3 p.m., they got a call after a hiker discovered the remains while out walking.

The police investigation is being led by the Muskoka Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and assisted by OPP Forensic Identification Service Unit (FISU) in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario (OCCO) and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS).

They said there is no threat to public safety.

Justin Evans, 22, went missing Dec. 12, 2020. Family and friends say on social media that the human remains found yesterday by a hiker in south Gravenhurst are those of the missing young man.
