43 CASES IN SIMCOE AS 50% OF ADULTS IN REGION HAVE HAD FIRST VACCINE

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — As the region hits the 50 per cent mark for vaccinations, the health unit reports 43 cases in Simcoe today.
None in Muskoka.
But one previous case in Huntsville was moved to another health unit.
That brings the week’s total cases to 147 — down from 303 last week and 348 the week before.
Provincially, Premier Doug Ford is waiting another week before deciding whether schools should return for the final month of the school year.
Ford — who says the buck stops with him — is being accused of passing the buck from one medical group to another to get the result he wants: school or no school.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reports 303,500+ people living in Simcoe Muskoka have received their first dose of vaccine, which is more than half the total population.
And the wait is over for second shots as the province says it will start offering second doses to people 80+ starting Monday and expects to be able to offer it to all who want it by the end of the summer.
On June 14 those aged 70+ will be eligible to get their second vaccine.

The province also said if you already have an appointment booked and you go online to their booking site and get a new one sooner, your original date will be cancelled.
Health Minister Christine Elliott tweeted this morning that 65 per cent of Ontarians 18+ have had their first vaccine.
This as Ontario again saw an increase in cases at 1,273 and 14 deaths. Thursday there were 1,135 cases and 19 deaths.
Toronto was at 269 (316), York 56 (75) and Peel 268.
North Bay-Parry Sound reported 3 cases after 1 yesterday.

IN OTHER COVID NEWS …
- Some are saying the peak of the peak of the third wave has passed.
- Last Friday Ontario reported 1,890 cases. Ontario’s 7-day average of daily cases fell to 1,353, its lowest point since March 16.
- The province is averaging 134,800 vaccine shots daily. Its re-opening plan call for 60 per cent of adults vaccinated before moving into Phase 1 of its reopening plan scheduled for June 14; and 20 per cent of adults fully vaccinated before entering Phase 2.
