POLICE CHARGE TWO GRAVENHURST SNOWMOBILERS ON SUNDAY

GRAVENHURST — A pair of snowmobilers out early yesterday were charged by police after one of them fled and crashed his sled.

OPP say they spotted the two Jan 24 just before 4 a.m., and were able to safely stop one of the drivers before the other one fled on the snowmobile trail.

The one they were able to stop had a front cowling made of wood and weather stripping and no front or rear.

A 33 year-old Gravenhurst man was charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act with the following:

  • Fail to have working head light
  • Fail to have working rear light
  • Drive motorized snow vehicle no insurance
  • Drive motorized snow vehicle permit not issued
  • Fail to display registration
  • Fail to display evidence of a permit

The snowmobile was towed and he is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge March 23, 2021.

A few hours later police were dispatched near the area of the initial traffic stop for the second sled found upside down in the ditch without the driver.

A 22-year old Gravenhurst man was later located and charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act with the following:

  • Driver fail to identify self upon request of police officer
  • Drive no licence
  • Fail to report circumstance of collision
  • Fail to display evidence of permit
  • Drive motorized snow vehicle no insurance
  • Drive motorized snow vehicle permit no issued
Police charged the driver of this altered sled and another snowmobiler.
