BIDEN CALLS ‘MOB ASSAULT’ AN ‘INSURRECTION’; CALLS ON TRUMP TO ‘STAND UP’

WASHINGTONChilling images of what appears unarguably to be an “insurrection” at the seat of the American government is best crystallized in one dramatic photo this afternoon of masked armed guards aiming their handguns at a blockaded door at the U.S. Capitol chamber.

Vice President-elect Joe Biden just called the “mob assault” on the Congress and seat of the legislative branch of the U.S. federal government an “insurrection” as hundreds of rioters breached barricades.

He called on President Donald Trump to immediately go on TV to denounce the actions of “a small minority.”

Biden, who was to be confirmed today as president, called on Trump to “stand up” and condemn the violence and try to stop it.

This as thousands of angry, militant Trump supporters rallied in Washington, D.C., to protest Biden’s election.

Some stormed inside the Capitol building breaking glass and running into the legislative chamber as tear gas filled the outside.

Media reports on the scene showed at least one “woman” was shot in the chest in the Capitol halls and about 5 p.m. she died.

Some politicians scrambled behind desks, fear in their eyes, as others peered over balconies or held up their smart phones to record the momentous, unprecedented moment.

Biden is to be sworn in 14 days on the same steps as protesters continue to control as Capitol police try to control and repel them and as neighbouring state and National Guard are being rushed to the scene.

Trump did release a video moments ago in which he first claimed the “fraudulent election” he won in a “landslide” was “stolen” from them.

He did then call on protesters to “go home” in a about a two-minute statement.

Meanwhile the city is in official overnight “curfew” issued by Mayor Muriel Bowser and is bracing for a potentially dangerous night ahead.

All this as Democrats won two Senate races in Georgia, giving Biden a majority control of the Senate with Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris the deciding vote as chair.

A dramatic TV video grab puts in to perspective the threat to the U.S. seat of government in Washington, D.C. this afternoon as the city braces for a potentially lethal night ahead as sun sets.
