SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Today’s Ontario COVID lockdown announcement comes ahead of word that in Simcoe and Muskoka over the past three days there were 188 cases.
The health unit — which keeps delaying by hours each day the reporting of new cases (3:30 p.m. today) — says four of the cases were in Muskoka.
- Bracebridge female — 18-34 — under investigation.
- Bracebridge male — 35-44 — under investigation.
- Muskoka Lakes female — aged 45-64 — under investigation.
- Muskoka Lakes male — aged 65-79 — under investigation.
They add — in a red highlighted note on its website — that “due to the increase in cases being reported to public health, data entry is lagged and data presented are interim and subject to change.”
The health unit now says in a change today that last week there were 310 cases (and the week before 333), which is the second highest number of weekly cases reported since the start of the pandemic.
That’s just over 61 cases per day since Friday.
For the most recent week (Dec. 13-19), the average daily growth in confirmed cases was 1.7%.
Based on projections, if this level of growth continues there will be approximately 445 cases reported during the week of Jan. 10-16, or about 65 cases per day with a projected weekly incidence rate of 80 cases per 100,000 population.
The vast majority of COVID-19 cases continue to be in the south end of the region.
Neighbouring York Region reported 192 Monday.
The health unit also notes today that December 21st – 11 cases were removed as they were either re-assigned to different Public Health Units or were identified as duplicates.
Ontario had 2,123 cases and 17 deaths. Of them 611 were in Ontario, 480 in Peel, 192 in York and 38 in Windsor-Essex.
Manitoba had 440 cases and 4 deaths, Quebec 2,108 cases and 30 deaths.
