SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Muskoka gets a clean bill of health today with all 49 COVID cases in Simcoe — as Health Canada approves Modern vaccine.
And as the clock is ticking to Saturday’s province-wide lockdown and is now at three days and counting.
The number is good news as it’s a bit of a drop below the recent average of 61 cases per day.
This as the weekly total for the region reached 274 for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
That’s just 59 shy of last week’s count of 333 — and with only one more reporting day to go tomorrow, Thursday Dec. 23.
There were also 2 more deaths in the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit area.
There will be no report on Christmas Day.
The yearly count is now up to 3,159, with 51 recovered since yesterday.
And 22 people are still in hospital with the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, across province and nationally, Ontario saw its second largest number of cases at 2,408 with 41 deaths.
To the south of Simcoe, York Region reports 190 cases, and Toronto 629, Peel 448, Hamilton 150 and Windsor-Essex 234.
Quebec set a 24-hour record with 2,247 cases and 74 deaths. Saskatchewan had 159 cases and five people there died.
NOTES:
- Alberta relaxes rules for singles living alone to have a couple of visitors between today and next Monday.
- Health care workers rolling up their sleeves across Canada to get injected with Pfizer vaccine.
- Ban on British visitors to Canada extended to Jan. 6.
