SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — The vaccine can’t come fast enough.

With 46 new COVID cases today — including two more in Huntsville — the region is already at 215 this week after 231 last week.

And an unusual 44 of those cases are “under investigation” with no indication of their cause. The other two cases were a close contact in Barrie where there was also a congregate setting case.

The Simcoe Muskoa District Health Unit says last week’s total shows a 1.8 per cent average daily growth.

They say that if that trajectory continues, by the final week of the year the five-day count could hit 450 new cases during the week of Dec. 27 to Jan. 2.

The two Huntsville cases are male and female, both age 35 to 44, and also under investigation.

Meanwhile, in Ontario there were 1,676 cases Tuesday Dec. 8 including 10 newly deceased.

In Quebec, where 15 people will be fined $1,000 for flouting social gatherings laws on the weekend, 1,564 people tested positive as of today. And 36 died since yesterday.

NOTES:

  • A 90-year-old British woman is the first Western world person to get the Pfizer vaccine today.
  • Manitoba outlaws holiday gatherings.
  • Groceries to soar in price by almost $700 in 2021.
