SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Five new Muskoka COVID cases today compare to 44 reported in Simcoe.

And they are aged from under 18 to up to 79.

After Gravenhurst and Huntsville have experienced the most cases in December since the pandemic outbreak, Bracebridge is gaining cases after being to a lesser extend affected.

There they are also coming down in age.

The Thursday Dec. 24 cases are:

  • Bracebridge male, 0-17, close contact

  • Bracebridge woman, 18-34, close contact

  • Bracebridge man, 35-44, close contact

  • Huntsville man, 35-44, under investigation

  • Gravenhurst woman, 65-79, community acquired

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is reporting 316 cases in four days this week and one more death in Simcoe. There were 333 last week.

They are among a record 2,447 with the disease in Ontario, which also lost 49 people (the most in 24 hours since May 12).

Toronto saw 646 cases, Peel 502, York 263 and Windsor-Essex 173.

The province tested more than 64,000 people Wednesday and had a positivity rate of 3.7 per cent.

  • A 37-year-old man in Los Angeles has been charged after he allegedly beat a fellow COVID-19 patient — an 82-year-old Hispanic man who was praying — to death with an oxygen tank Dec. 17.
  • SMDH adds in a case note there were 14 cases re-assigned to different municipalities upon further review of the address information. And it says due to increasing volumes in cases these changes will no longer be documented on this change log.
